SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow – Simon Fraser University & Université Laval

About

I am currently a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow jointly appointment to the Political Science Department at Simon Fraser University and ESEI at Université Laval. I completed my DPhil (PhD) in International Relations at the University of Oxford in August 2018. My research focuses on understanding the rationales behind and the design and outcomes associated with international cooperation, ranging from regulatory cooperation to treaty making to summitry politics. I am particularly interested in human rights, labour rights, inequality, and global environmental politics.

My doctoral dissertation explored how and why states include labour and human rights regulation in international trade agreements. My postdoctoral research looks at the design and consequences of withdrawal provisions in international environmental agreements. This work is funded by a SSHRC Insight Development Grant, which I am Principal Investigator on. I am also working on a project that maps and assesses the structure of offshore networks.

I also have a keen interest in the application of data science and statistical network analysis methods to international relations data and work extensively in R and Python. In addition, I work regularly with qualitative research methods, including elite interviewing and case studies. Overall, I enjoy teaching IR students research method fundamentals and about evidence-based decision making and research.
